Dunno if that’s what it was or not, but, after repeated router resets, I broke down and installed Wireshark (kudos to the developers, you rock). Lovely little proggie that packs quite a wallop. Seems someone in Brazil found it necessary to abuse my poor udp ports. So I fiddled with the router a bit and banned the whole country. π My irc lag is back down below half a millisecond (where it should be) and all thing internet are moving like a well oiled machine. Who knew a packet sniffer could be so much fun

Awwww, Shucks
Well so much for weekend plans… I have to work tonight, The water heater is leaking, I have to go buy a new one, I’m not going to get to sleep, the server still keeps shutting down at random intervals– /me wanders off in a sleep deprived daze…
Updates frantic
Wow! what a whirlwind month April turned out to be! Between children’s activities and work, sleep has been a bit on the slim side.
My oldest son won the Electronics Applications division of the Georgia state SkillsUSA Competition… for the third year running! Takes after his grandfather he does, just brilliant.
Thyroid medication has had a very mild effect on me, if any. No one has noticed any increase in irritability for the last 2 wks, and that’s as long as it should have lasted. Hmmm, that might not be a good thing…
Work has been oddly busy for some reason. We may even have to work this coming Friday night. I never have to work Fridays… but hey, I’ll take any overtime I can get. Then after we work a sixth day this week, they are laying us off for the first week of May. Lack of work they say… *scratches head* Go figure π
OMG I am sooo sore and bruised. One of my dearest friends works for an architectural firm. They just upgraded all of their displays to flat panel lcds. He let me know that there were 3 21″ CRT’s available if I would only come and get them. I was there in 2 mins flat. What I didn’t account for was how HEAVY these suckers are. The lightest one was over 50 lbs, so not too bad. But the others must have weighed in at nothing less than 80! And no hand holds!! π My hands sweat as it is so after the first one nearly sliding out of my grip, I tightened down with the hands. I kept having to push the things back up to my arms with my thighs. Now I have huge bruises on my legs and arms where the weight of these boulders was resting. But they are sooo crisp π― The display is just awesome. Photoshop never looked so good. Nothing like a professional grade monitor to make your pictures look incredible!
So I am off next week. I’m going to go visit my sister in Atlanta for a few days and then come home and work in the yard. I’ve let it go waaaaaay to long.
Oh yeah π Do check out the pictures on the Wandering Eyes page ^^ My sister took most of them and there are some great shots there.
My husbands 50th birthday is Monday 5/11. I want to do something for him, but I don’t think I have the money for a big shebang. Have to save up for the oldest boy to head to the SkillsUSA national competition. That’s not going to be cheap π I need to think of ways to raise funds to send him as the local school board has refused to pay for anything. Have to see if I can find a corporate sponsor or something… Maybe the company I work for would be willing to help… Comment on this post if you have any Ideas.
Well that’s all that has happened lately. Its time for me to go to sleep.
New Meds – First Ever
OK. I have started my first regular medication ever… and I hate it. I have made it through 40 yrs without having to take any thing other than vitamins regularly and now all of a sudden I am on thyroid medication. It is giving me mild headaches. Not so bad I guess. Many women my age are on a handful of pills for everything from hormone imbalances to high blood pressure. At least this will not have any other side effects other than the headaches (I hope. They are mild and easily dealt with). I started them about a week ago, and should start to feel them in about another week. From what I hear, I could go from having no real transition (because I do have thyroid function, just not enough), to being a total basket case for about a week. That would make for an interesting work environment. Oh well. It could be worse. I have noticed a decrease in appetite not necessarily a bad thing. I could stand to lose 20 lbs or so. And it is said that my hair will get thicker (always a good thing). Off to fix the car…
Ahhhh – to bake :)
We did it. We installed our new double oven. Thankfully, it came in a week early – it wasn’t supposed to arrive until next week. I am soooo glad it did though. Otherwise I would not have had the time off to install it in one day. So this morning we started reworking the oven cutout. The first thing we had to do was remove a drawer and the bottom of the old oven cavity. We did this as non destructively as possible so we could reuse the bottom in the new cutout. Next came the drawer mounting. This was a bit tricky because the drawer mounting needs to be flush with the cutout trim in order for the drawer hardware to be at the proper width. We preserved that too. After we removed the lower trim from the old cut out and drawer cavity, we had to take a shelf out of the cabinet below the old oven cavity. We were able to preserve the shelf, but not the shelf supports. Finally ready to rebuild the cutout for the new oven unit. It’s a double oven, and both are full sized KitchenAid units. The top is a convection oven. I really like this unit. We did several days of research to find the best rated unit for the money and this one won hands down. It has all the bells and whistles a cook could want. It’s self cleaning, but without the odd interior finish that most self cleaning ovens have. The interior is the standard enamel over steel. the bottom element is hidden beneath the floor of each oven – spills don’t get on it. Makes for super easy clean up.
We measured out the height of the needed cut out and went to work making a support system for the bottom of the oven cavity. This thing is HEAVY. Once the lumber was cut, we did a dry install to make sure everything was level. Then we took out the shelf and worked on the drawer mounts. Once we had them level, I crawled in and installed the drawer hardware and checked how the drawer pulled and returned. Perfect. So we screwed everything down and popped the bottom shelf back in. Then came wiring up the oven. It was a 4 wire system and the house is a 3 wire system. So a quick call to my all knowing father and a look at the instruction manual told us that the breaker was fine and we could wire it up with no problems. Then the hard part. By this time my sons were home from school. Thank goodness, because there was no way that the hubby and I could have lifted this thing alone. Between the two oldest boys and us, we each took a corner and upsy-daisy – in it went. We installed the trim and put the drawer in. WOW! Looked like it had always been there and the cabinet had been made to fit it from the start. We did all the little start up things in the instruction manual and then I put it through a self clean cycle to burn off the new. I can’t wait to use it.
In all, it took us about 12 hours of steady work to get ready and install it. Not too bad for a couple of do it yourselfers. I am very proud of us and our new ovens. We sat down and had a beer.
