I bought a necklace at a local festival several years ago. $20 usd. Not too bad really for a sterling silver chain and setting. I bought it because I like grey. Silver is grey. The stone is grey. The kiosk was under an awning – so the set was in the shade. All I saw was a plain grey stone in a silver setting on a silver chain. Its a large circular cabochon setting. About 3/4 of an inch across. I put it on as soon as I bought it. Then went on my way to enjoy the rest of the festival with my sister who was with me. As we walked around during that beautiful sunny day, I picked up the pendant from my chest and looked at it in the sunshine. What I saw gave me chills. A perfect six point star! I had purchased the largest natural star sapphire I had ever seen. Most only have 4 points. That brilliant star stood out magnificently against the plain grey of what I thought was just a stone. I was thrilled. At first my sister couldn’t see the star. Then her eyes got big. “WOW!” was all she could say, as she pointed to the star that she saw.
But it wasn’t in the same place I saw the star. And every time I looked at it, the star was in a different place, and never the same place twice. Never in the same place as someone else’s star.
And it never will be.
I wear this pendant often, especially when I become disenchanted with humanity. It is… a gentle, positive tap on the shoulder. Remember our stars, and love them anyway.
I love this post, I love the pendant and you my dear sis! 🙂
