The River

I sit and watch the water go by
In its depths, images from my mind swirl
The water mesmerizes me by giving life to the beauty around me
Trees are green and the banks a fertile black
The fish swim through the water – faster downstream than up
I hear the crickets and the birds

a hawk overhead

A canoe goes by
They do not see me
I am a part of the land, blended with the underbrush and dirt
Silence
No sign that man exists here
A breeze rustles the stiff palmettos behind me
Across the water there are woods
Thick
I cannot see into them
I cannot see what they contain

The lighter pebbles on the bottom move with the current and flow on to the Gulf

This place clears my mind and gives me peace
I am free again
Here, I can think and dream
The silence comforts me
When I am here alone, I think of others and how they would like it here
I am at home here

The trees are my walls, the bank my floor, and the balconies of the trees my ceiling

The life of the river surrounds me
When the animals come I watch them too

The deer that puts its head down and lips to the water
The ears that move about seeking sound

It is downstream
The wind blows upstream
It does not see or hear me
The breeze hits the leaves and it bounds away
I see the hawk

I glide and lift with it
The freedom penetrates me and lifts me higher

I see the small handprints in the dirt close to the water
The larger pawprints further up made last night
They come here to drink too
The breeze is cool as it lifts my hair from my neck
I close my eyes and listen to the life that I am a part of
My mind’s eye comes alive and I see the leaves rustle

The trees move
The squirrels jump
The fish jump from the water in a graceful arc

The sun touches my back and I feel it
Its warm hand massaging me
I open my eyes
The sun does a ballet upon the water as it flows
I am the only human element here
A log floats by turning over and over and over
Again the leaves chatter with excitement
The wind moves my hair above me
A cloud scuttles across the sky

Its dark underbelly takes the sun from my back

I shiver
It’s time to go now
I have had my share of God’s peace

Another week off – involuntarily

In order to keep from making more permanent lay offs, the company I work for is making temporary lay offs. Consequently, I’m off for a week starting today. I go back to work on March 8th. I feel ambiguous toward the time off. I’m glad to have it – there are things I look forward to doing. Like editing manga for Aerandria and spending time upgrading my PC. But at the same time, I won’t be getting paid. I’ll get unemployment, but it will be a fraction of what I would normally receive. We recently bought a new oven, so getting the cabinet ready for it will also take up some of my time. I am a night person; my schedule is soooo going to be messed up… Oh well. The time spent with the family will be worth it.
I should probably see about cleaning up my office… I have empty boxes everywhere. I think there is a floor in here somewhere, with carpeting even!

New Blackberry

There was this awesome special on them and I was elegible for an upgrade. We had the money so… NEW GADGET FOR THE GADGET LADY!!! YAY!!
So far I love it. It’s a 8350i. Has alll the bells and whistles. To and including mobile versions of Word, Excel, and Power Point. It came with a 1gb MicroSD card too. So I have plenty of space to store the 2mp pictures I can take with it. So, I’ll keep using a bb instead of buying myself a laptop. Lord knows it’s cheaper and smaller. Pretty much all I need 🙂

Comforts of Home

OK.  It’s probably just the little girl in me, but, I really think this is cool.  I work nights, so I have to sleep during the day.  Nothing surprising there.  But, since my hubby only works on the weekends, he’s usually home during the day when I’m asleep.  So when I get home from work, we spend a few minutes chatting and what not – and here’s the kicker – and then when I’m ready to go to sleep, he tucks me in.  YEAH!  He really does 😛 .  Isn’t that just awesome? It’s soooo nice to be tired and sleepy and to just go in and lay down and have someone tuck the covers up around your chin, and then hug you and kiss you good night.  I sleep really well all day!  And such a wonderful way to end the day,  ya know?  I really miss it on Fridays when he is at work.  Amazing how something so simple and short (cause it doesn’t take long) can make such a profound difference in how we wake up.  And I think he kind of enjoys it too… :^^:

Busy Busy Busy

Yikes, been a while hasn’t it?

It’s been an interesting few weeks.  I’ve spent a fair amount of time doing things around the house, taxes and web related stuff.  Spent the first week of Feb. laid off from work, and it seemed to last forever.  Kind of odd that, usually time off flies by.

We are getting a fair amount back for our income tax refund this year and have decided to buy a new oven.  Looking forward to being able to bake properly again.  To be able to bake both layers of a cake at the same time… sigh.

My hubby is back at work as well after having spent 12 wks on medical leave.  Nice to have two incomes again.  Hopefully the layoffs at my job will stop soon.  We have seen an increase in orders.

I’m about to become very busy on my computer very soon.  Aside from the three websites that I own and maintain, I have been asked to be a contributing member/ admin of three other sites as well.  Not to mention the photoshop editing that I am trying to fit in between work, family and sleep.  At least two of them could make me some cash, which would be nice.  I need to do more reasearch for at least two of them as well.  Posting and uploading information is going to be interesting.
